Distal Radius / Targon® DR

Intramedullary nail for the distal radius

Description

Fractures of the distal radius receive surgical treatment in more and more cases since the conservative therapy is characterized by a high rate of secondary dislocation after the primarily successful closed reposition of the fracture. When choosing the operating method, the assessment of the stability, and thus the correct classification of the fracture, is an important factor. Fractures with a metaphysal comminution zone, especially accompanied by osteoporosis, can benefit from an internal osteosynthesis procedure that ensures stable retention even beyond the period of 6 weeks.

The Targon® DR is inserted in the medullary cavity. It was developed with the aim to reduce the approach-related morbidity, but also to ensure stable osteosynthesis. Targon® DR is a plate-and-nail hybrid system. Thanks to the special geometry of the Targon® DR and the simple, yet safe operating technique, intramedullary osteosynthesis finally can be applied to the most common fracture in humans, too.
